Xbox Series X mini fridge sells out and it’s not even out until December

Microsoft’s Xbox have launched a long-promised and eagerly awaited mini fridge to look like their Series X games console that was released in 2020 and pre-orders have already sold out

The Xbox Series X mini fridge has launched and it is already in very high demand.

Xbox Series X/S are the company’s “fastest-selling consoles ever”, according to Microsoft boss Satya Nadella.

More consoles have been sold than any previous generation, and now fans are hoping to get their hands on the handy drinks cooling item to go with it.

The actual Xbox Series X has sold around 6.5 million consoles to eager customers since it was released in 2020 to rival the new PlaySation 5, which itself has sold around 10 million.

Xbox said: “We’re working to bring the Xbox Mini Fridge to as many fans as possible and will continue to expand regional availability in 2022, pending regulatory approvals and restrictions by market.”

The mini fridge is currently exclusive to gaming retailer Game.

Pre-orders are currently sold out and cost £89, the first wave of orders – which began yesterday – sold out in two minutes.

On the Game website, it currently says: “Sorry, this product is currently out of stock, but might be available in store.”

If you didn’t manage to get your hands on one, it’s worth remembering that some of those who were lucky enough to buy one immediately put their purchase up for grabs on eBay.

However, the official release date is December 2021, which is when you should be able to get your hands on one more easily.

Since the Xbox Series X was released. Fans joked that the new games console looked like a fridge.

Twitter ran a ‘#BestOfTweets Brand Bracket’ competition, to find out that year’s most popular brand. Xbox, owned by Microsoft, narrowly won over the sweets company Skittles, owned by Mars Inc.

Twitter said: “Twitter’s Best Of Tweets is our hall of fame, our GOAT, our crowning achievement for the brands that creatively leveraged Twitter this year to launch something new, or to connect to what’s happening like no one else could. And we want to hear from you, does your brand deserve to be crowned a winner?”

After Xbox won, they promised to then make the mini fridge a reality due to the Series X’s design becoming a popular internet meme on release.

Head of Global Product Marketing for Xbox, Aaron Greenberg said: “Thanks to everyone who voted, this was down to the wire and thrilling to follow. Now that @Xbox won, we will move forward on our promise to make those Xbox Series X Mini Fridges. First one off the line will be filled with games & headed to our friends @Skittles of course!”
