Solskjaer previews Man Utd v Liverpool in Premier League

Bruno Fernandes’ concerns over Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s tactics are reportedly shared by several of his Manchester United teammates.

Pressure mounts on the Norwegian boss as he endures one of his worst spells at the club.

The Red Devils dropped out of the top four last weekend with a 4-2 defeat to Leicester and are winless in their last three games in the Premier League.

United’s dramatic comeback against Atalanta midweek in the Champions League has eased the pressure somewhat as Cristiano Ronaldo bailed him out once again with his stoppage-time winner.

The Old Trafford club are continuing to back their manager, but that hasn’t discouraged the critics who feel he has taken United as far as he can.

One of the reoccurring issues seems to be Solskjaer’s tactics as he struggles to find the right balance in midfield, who are leaving their defence exposed.

It was certainly a problem in the first half against the Italians as they found themselves 2-0 up at the break.

And it’s claimed Fernandes took it upon himself to intervene in Solskjaer’s half-time pep talk, alongside compatriot Ronaldo.

The Portugal star demanded the Old Trafford boss change his tactics for the second period as he wanted to be dropped into a deeper role to get on the ball more.

The former Sporting Lisbon man would end up assisting Marcus Rashford to get United back in the game at 2-1.

There have been other matches during the course of the season that Solskjaer’s tactical approach has been put under the microscope.

He opted to start an unfit Harry Maguire against the Foxes who wasn’t up to speed and was at fault for two of Leicester’s goals.

He also benched Ronaldo for the visit of Everton as United struggled to find the breakthrough against the Toffees – a side that just conceded five goals to Watford at home.

United were also outplayed by Villarreal at home in the Champions League and were lucky to escape with the three points as Ronaldo came to the rescue on that occasion.

Man Utd also failed to score against Aston Villa at home as Dean Smith’s men claimed a 1-0 victory.

And Solskjaer’s tactical frailties are a concern shared by other United players as there is “confusion” among the camp.

A source told The Sun : “The message is not clear.

“There is confusion in the team, players don’t understand what the tactics are.

“There’s no team, it’s just individuals and there are big problems in the defence.”
