Czech Republic vs England: Euros preview and prediction

The Three Lions have four points from their opening two games – a 1-0 win over Croatia and a goalless draw against Scotland – but have yet to hit anything approaching top gear so far at the Euros, and have been hit by Mason Mount and Ben Chilwell self-isolating after Billy Gilmour’s positive Covid test.

England have secured their spot in the last-16 thanks to results elsewhere on Monday, but will only top the group with a win if they beat Czech Republic. However, what Southgate really needs along with a result is a performance to build confidence before his side face knockout football.

Date, kick-off time and venue

Czech Republic vs England is scheduled for an 8pm BST kick-off on Tuesday, Jne 22, 2021.

The match will be held at Wembley Stadium.

Czech Republic vs England team news

Mason Mount and Ben Chilwell are isolating ahead of the game after coming into contact with Chelsea team-mate Gilmour at England’s draw against Scotland.

That leaves their inclusion for Tuesday’s game in doubt as things stand, though Southgate has confirmed that Harry Kane will start.

Southgate has confirmed Kane will start. The Three Lions skipper failed to have a shot on target in the opening two games and was subbed off in both matches.

Despite that, Southgate has revealed Kane will start, saying: “He is fundamental not only to the goals he scores but the build-up play and everything else he brings.”

Phil Foden may be dropped given he will be suspended if he gets booked, and that will allow Southgate to respond to the clamour to play Jack Grealish.
