Two boys, aged six and eight, were killed in the tragedy in Texas

Two boys, aged six and eight, have been killed after a drag racing car veered into a crowd in a horror crash at an event in the US.

The tragedy at Kerrville-Kerr County Airport in Texas saw eight other people taken to hospital, including a three-month-old baby girl, authorities said.

It happened during an organised race day when a driver lost control at around 3.20pm.

Witnesses said that the car had just crossed the finish line, where there was no barrier between racers and spectators.

The youngest boy died at the scene, while the eight-year-old was rushed to hospital, where medics battled in vain to save his life.

Police later said a three-month-old girl and a four-year-old boy were among those taken to hospital, NBC News reports.

Organiser Ross Dunagan confirmed that an incident had happened at the Airport Race Wars event, saying in a Facebook Live video: “Medical personnel are doing everything they can, and they’re taking care of the entire scene.

She told the Kerrville Daily Times : “They said ‘Get your children out of here.”.

Ms Lehmann, whose husband was participating in the event, claimed that there were no barriers beyond the finish line.
