Christmas coming to Newmains after company steps in to provide light funds

Christmas is coming to Newmains after a local company stepped in to provide much needed funds for lights.

Members of Newmains Gala Committee and the village’s community council began a fundraiser earlier this week to raise a whopping £7,000 needed for festive lights and a Christmas tree.

And the total was raised within a matter of days thanks a generous donation from Carfin-based company Jordan Electrics.

Mary Gilfillan, from the gala committee, told Lanarkshire Live:: “Both ourselves and community council had managed to raise money through grants and other fundraisers but we had a shortfall of around £4000.

“So we are absolutely delighted that Brian and Steven Jordan have stepped in to help us out.

“It has been such a hard 18 months for everyone and this will bring a bit of cheer to everyone in Newmains.

“Our councillors have been very supportive as well.”

Locals also backed the groups Christmas lights plan through an online fundraiser.

Posting on its Facebook page, Newmains Community Council stated: “The appeal had gone from strength to strength over the past few days since we launched the appeal but nothing had prepared us for the outstanding donation we have received.

“There are not enough words to express how we are currently feeling nor express our gratitude to Jordan Electrics who have donated £4000 to ensure our little village has festive cheer, particular in what has been challenging 18 months in many ways.

“All the residents of Newmains would like to say thank you from the bottom of our hearts to Brian and Stephen Jordan.”

Councillor Robert John McKendrick added: “A massive thank you to Brian, Stephen and everyone at Jordan Electrics for their huge donation of £4000 to the Newmains Christmas Lights fundraiser.

“Brilliant to see two Newmains boys supporting their community.”

The Newmains Gala Committee AGM will be held in Robin’s Bar on Monday, October 25, at 8pm. All welcome.
